Narnia revisited!

Some of you may remember that a couple of years ago we had a really bad winter, with snow up to my thighs for a couple of weeks (ooh err)?!
Some of you may also remember that this time last year we were in the middle of a heatwave and wearing shorts and tee shirts - oh how things change!!

Anyway, when the deep snow came 2  years ago, I went in search of Narnia and found it, but failed to find the lamp post. I was going to do a snazzy link to that blogpost, but the blogger gremlins have stolen it so you'll have to either trust your memory or me on that one! We've got snow again at the moment - not thigh deep this time (yet), but a good six inches so far and more forecast for the coming week...time for a quick chorus of "I'm dreamin' of a white Easter" anyone??

My wonderful friend Bilbo Waggins from The View From Bag End managed to find the snazzy link for me, so you can read about my first trip to Narnia here, once you've read her blog! Thanks Bilbo :-)

So, looking out of the sitting room window this morning I decided it'd be a good time to revisit Narnia to see if I could find that flippin' lamp post this time.

Suitably layered and wellied up, I set off down the drive ....or what I think was the drive!

I wandered on down through the trees until I spied the gate in the distance........
stopping only to check out the splash of colour on the berries,
I trudged on until I made it to 'The Road'. I took a well earned rest break (well, it's a long way down our drive!) and had a chat with our lovely neighbours as we gazed up Tony's drive and looked at how pretty our wall is! Our neighbours had been far more advernterous than me and had ventured as far as 'The Newsagents', brave people that they are....but then, their drive is a lot shorter and flatter than ours!

I decided to head back to warm my feet up, pausing briefly to admire our 3 sentinels - our elegant, magnificent, protected Horse Chesnuts.

Trudging slowly uphill through more trees, I thought I spied something....something black, something man-made. Could this be it? Had I found it?

YEEEEESSSSS!!!!
The lamp post. I could go home now!

So I did!

HAPPY SPRING EVERYONE!

And Happy Spring to you too, even though at the moment that is something of a leap of faith! It must warm up soon? Surely?

Beautiful images dear Liz ... I am so happy for you that your fluffy dream finally came true! Your home, grounds, and wall are stunning ... so picturesque in the snow!

That was certainly a lovely walk - a spring walk with quite a twist! Over here it's cold and damp but not cold enough to snow.
With that snow, it will be fun to hide Easter Eggs.

It is too late and I'm too tired for the snazzy link, but is this what you're looking for? {smile}

As for all that white stuff, strewth sweetie, that is a serious dump of snow! Probably should not tell you that Bag End is still green and pleasant, despite ludicrous and inaccurate TV reporting.

Thank you for the trip through Narnia and glad you found what you were looking for. Happy spring to you too

Ey up Woody. I know what you mean about the leap of faith, but winter can't hold us in its grip forever - can it?!
Spring and, hopefully, warm weather WILL arrive soonish!

Thank you Joey luv...and you're right - everything looks wonderful under a deep blanket of snow. No tatty borders, no weeds, no obviously dead plants, just magical whiteness!

I'll still be loving the snow when I'm 80....and probably trying to persuade my grandchildren to come sledging with me! :-D

Ah, dear Pondside, how lovely to see you. We've had a lot of snow this winter, but in lots of dumps of a few days at a time and inbetween we've had what semed like endless amounts of fog, grey skies and dull, dull wet weather, so lovely dry crisp snow makes a lovely respite from all that!
Haha...I may well end up hiding the Easter eggs in the snow - it's forecast to last all week!

Bilbo, you star!
How on earth did you manage to find it? I spent AGES yesterday looking for it until I got really cross with myself for being a technological neanderthal!
Wonderful - thank you so much ...and you'll see by now that I've put the snazzy link in too! :-)

Yeah, we've got about 6" now and more to come tonight. So what's happened up there then - I thought you were up to your necks in snow?!

Is it all a bit further inland then? I know the Morcambe Bay Rescue Team were called in to find buried cars and I did kind of assume that you'd be covered in it too. well there you go!!!

When are you and Management coming to see us?! x

Hi Marianne and thank you for your lovely comments. You've probably gathered that I love snow, but even I am ready for some warm weather now - it seems to have been a very long winter this year!

Hi Liz,

I'm so glad you managed to find your way home; no sign of mr tumnus??

Perhaps next time? :)

Fed up of the white stuff now; ready for our lost summer to arrive.

How on earth did you manage to find it?

Easy peasy, lovely girl! Go to the very top of your blog. At the left of your screen is a Blogger logo (and clicking on that will take you to your main 'dashboard' page).

Next to that is a small search box which you can use to search your own blog.

I just typed in Narnia .....

PS: Reports of our demise have been greatly exaggerated, bloody incompetent media :{

Snow is mainly in the south of Cumbria although most of the high passes are white and St John's in the Vale (near Keswick) has had a good dump of the stuff.

Despite Sky News screaming 'Sellafield was closed, the weather has closed a nuclear power plant' the truth is that the Sellafield day shift were sent home early because the weather was closing in and Sellafield is a reprocessing plant, not a power station. Nearby Calder Hall ceased production in 2003.

Hi Liz, didn't spot Mr. Tumnus but there was a polar bear ambling down the road!!!

Much as I love the snow, I am SO fed up of being cold and looking at grey and overcast skies. Definitely ready for warm sunny days and blue skies!

Nutty Gnome said...

see Bilbo - techno neanderthal! I never knew I could do that ...I didn't even realise that the little blogger logo took me to my dashboard! Dhur!

Hahaha, we don't have Sky, but I can imagine their hype over Sellafield!

Quite a few of the outlying villages near here are cut off, but our roads are reasonable now although I suspect they'll be icy in the morning. Himself is outside at the moment clearing wheel tracks down the drive ...100yds downhill in reverse in the snow is SO not fun!I'm a wuss and am tucked up at my desk with the heater going to keep the tootsies warm instead! :-D

And to change your picture....
Try this,
Design, then Layout
Header, Edit,
Image, Browse
Save, Preview, Save again.

I've just done it with mine and it worked, altho the image is ginormous (not sure I'll keep it but wanted to test it before telling you.

Alternatively, if you just want to chnage the pic of you, try:

Dashboard, then box on RH side, Blogger profile, Edit profile. At the photo, Remove image. Select Browse from your computer & upload photo you want. Save profile, View updated and if content Close it.

Should work, I've just done mine.

So, did you wander back into the house via the wardrobe door?? ;-)

Cute post -perfect weather and photos!

Sue Garrett said...

So is the White witch to blame for it being always winter and never Christmas?

Nutty Gnome said...

Thanks Woody, I'll give it a go...and yours is indeed ginormous! Nice new profile piccy too!

Nutty Gnome said...

Haha ...no Shady, went in by the back door instead!
Glad you liked the post and the photos. Most of the snow has gone now, but went did have a bit of a blizzard this morning again!

Nutty Gnome said...

No Sue - apparently I'm to blame for doing my 'snow dance' too many times! I'm working on the 'warm, sunny day dance' at the moment, but it's a toughy!!!

Thanks for visiting my blog.
I'm obviously a wee bit too late for all the Narnia puns - think most of them have been taken!
What a beautiful set of pictures. I hope things are now improving for you.
